Light fixtures for stretch ceilings: what works and what doesn’t

Light fixtures for stretch ceilings: what works and what doesn’t

Lighting is half the interior with a stretch ceiling. Wrong fixture choice means overheated film, sagging or dark zones. Here’s which lights suit stretch ceilings and how to plan them.

POTOLOK+ in Tashkent installs ceilings with light platforms, uses odorless MSD, offers a 15-year warranty and free measurement — we mark spots, chandelier and LED positions on site.

01

Heat limits

PVC film handles 60–70 °C with proper install. Standard incandescent and powerful halogen lamps must not sit flush against film — it warps, yellows or sags.

Use LED spots, fixtures with built-in thermal rings and gap from film, LED strips in aluminum profiles for heat dissipation. Per point usually 5–12 W LED.

At free survey POTOLOK+ recommends compatible models and calculates points for room size.

02

Recessed spots

Spots are the most common choice in Tashkent flats. Installed via mounting platform: base fixed before stretch, then hole cut and fixture inserted with trim ring.

Perimeter spots + central chandelier covers ambient and task light. Kitchen — spots over worktop; bedroom — dimmed spots.

All spots for stretch ceilings need fixed gap or swivel mount — not flush to film. POTOLOK+ uses tested platforms for matte and other film types.

03

Chandelier on stretch ceiling

Chandeliers work — via hook or mounting plate on the concrete slab before stretching. Film wraps the base; load goes to the slab, not the film.

Heavy crystal chandeliers 15–30 kg need a solid concrete anchor. Light LED fixtures 2–5 kg use a standard hook. Power: LED preferred, total usually under 40–60 W.

No chandelier? Cover the center with a ring of spots or a pendant on cables with a platform.

04

LED strip and contour lighting

Perimeter LED strip gives soft contour light — ideal for floating ceilings with backlight behind the cornice. Strip goes in aluminum profile before stretch; film doesn’t touch diodes directly.

RGB strips for living room and kids’ room; warm white 3000K for bedroom and hallway. Power supply hides in a niche or access hatch.

Contour light doesn’t replace main lighting — you still need spots or chandelier for reading and tasks. We plan “main + decorative” at survey.

05

Planning before install

Moving a light point after stretching is expensive: remove film or complex rework. At free survey we fix furniture layout, kitchen zones, headboard, TV wall.

Electrician runs wiring before POTOLOK+ installers arrive. We set platforms, thermal rings, chandelier hooks — then stretch MSD.

Typical 15–20 m² room — 6–10 spots + chandelier or strip. Exact count depends on ceiling height and room use.

06Questions

Frequently asked questions

01Can I use regular incandescent lamps?
No — they overheat PVC. Only LED with thermal gap or chandeliers with offset from film.
02How many spots for an 18 m² room?
Usually 6–8 plus central light. Exact count depends on ceiling height and room use — we calculate at survey.
03Can I add lights after the ceiling is done?
Harder and more expensive. Better to plan spare points and dimmers upfront.
04Do you do electrical wiring?
We install platforms, hooks and cut-outs. Wiring is by an electrician — we can recommend partners in Tashkent.
