Floating ceiling with backlighting: pros, install and price

Track fixes around the perimeter; tape sits in a groove and washes the wall up or down depending on model. Driver hides in a niche, cabinet or behind cornice — planned at survey.

Film stretches like a classic system — odorless MSD, usually matte or satin so it doesn’t fight the backlight.

Shadow-gap is a clean dark joint without required lighting. Floating is about light and the hover effect. Sometimes combined: shadow contour + separate light lines.

Shadow-gap costs less: no LED, driver or tape labor. Modern look without glow.

Floating costs more per linear meter of track but the “wow” effect is stronger — especially at night with main lights off.

Track is priced per linear meter (with LED costs more); film by area. Slightly more complex due to LED and driver — planned at measurement.

Cost = perimeter × track price with LED + film area + install + electrics (separate switch/dimmer if needed). A 15 m² room with ~16 m perimeter — quoted at free survey.

Complex shapes (niches, bays, columns) add linear meters — installer measures every segment.

Basic option — separate switch for contour light from main lighting. Handy for evening mode without bright spots.

Compatible dimmer — smooth brightness change. Smart home and remotes on request if wiring allows.

Tape color: warm white 3000K — cozy; neutral 4000K — modern; RGB — rare in homes, more in kids’ or entertainment zones.

Living room, bedroom, hall, kitchen-living — top zones. In bedrooms contour light replaces a night light. In halls — soft navigation without a pendant.

Bathrooms possible with IP65+ tape — discussed separately. Kitchens — carefully: grease and steam need strong ventilation.

Don’t overload a small 3×3 m room with bright tape on full perimeter — we tune brightness and gap width at survey.
