Stretch ceiling during flooding: will it save you and what to do

The film sags into a “bubble” and collects water. Matte and gloss hold the same — it’s the material, not the finish.

PVC is elastic: it stretches under load but doesn’t tear instantly. Capacity depends on room area and perimeter track quality. Larger room — larger “reservoir”.

Fabric ceilings don’t hold water — it passes through. For flood protection choose PVC only.

Guide — up to ~100 liters per m² with quality install; in practice that much rarely accumulates. A 15 m² room could theoretically hold hundreds of liters while the track holds.

Usually water enters at one point — burst hose or riser — and the bubble is local. Don’t let water find a gap at the wall or around a light.

If water flows a long time, load increases. Shut off the source upstairs and call installers immediately — earlier draining means better chance to save the film.

DIY knife cuts often tear the sheet. Water dumps in a rush and floods furniture worse than a controlled drain through a tech hole.

Slight sag after draining is normal: installer heats and tensions the zone in 30–60 minutes. Water marks on white film often fade when dry.

Torn film or detached track needs a patch or full replacement — rare with proper draining and timely call.

Replace if: you punctured it yourself; track deformed from overload; film tore at a seam or platform; water sat for weeks with contamination.
