How to care for a stretch ceiling: cleaning, mistakes and lifespan

A stretch ceiling doesn’t need daily cleaning, but wrong methods leave streaks, scratches or deformation. We explain what to use, how often to wipe matte and gloss MSD film and what to avoid completely.
After install in Tashkent, POTOLOK+ clients get a care sheet with the handover act and 15-year warranty. This article is the extended version — so the ceiling still looks like handover day years later, without extra service calls.
General care rules for MSD PVC ceiling
MSD film is tough but sensitive to solvents and scratches. Basics: microfiber or soft lint-free cloth, warm water (not hot), a drop of neutral liquid soap if needed.
Remove dust with dry microfiber or soft duster — no pressure. Wipe drips from leaks or kitchen steam before they dry with streaks.
After POTOLOK+ install, ventilate 2–3 hours; then care is minimal — don’t paint the ceiling or glue wallpaper to it.
Matte ceiling: how to clean
Matte film forgives more than gloss: fewer visible prints and micro-scratches. A damp wipe every 3–6 months in living rooms is enough; kitchen every 2–3 months with heavy cooking.
Method: dampen cloth, wring well, wipe with light zigzag motion. No puddles — water must not run into the track.
Coffee, wine, marker stains: soap and water first; if needed only PVC-safe products (no acetone or alcohol). At handover we can suggest specific brands.
Gloss ceiling: glare and fingerprints
Gloss mirrors the room — dust, fingerprints and bad wiping show. Wipe more often: every 1–2 months in living areas, locally after cleaning if needed.
Use two cloths: one with soapy water, one dry for streak-free polish. One direction, no circular scrubbing.
Don’t use furniture wax or polish — it leaves a film that attracts dust. Gloss likes gentle care, not heavy “detailing”.
What not to do
- Abrasive pads, metal scrapers, stiff brushes
- Acetone, solvents, acid and alkaline cleaners
- Steam cleaner close to film — overheating and deformation
- Sharp objects (scrapers, furniture corners when moving)
- DIY removal of the sheet to “air it” — POTOLOK+ installer only
If flooded from above don’t puncture the ceiling yourself — call us: we drain properly and preserve warranty with correct handling.
Care by zone: kitchen, bathroom, kids’ room
Kitchen: grease settles faster on gloss and satin — use hood and light regular wipes. Don’t aim kettle steam at the ceiling.
Bathroom: condensation is normal; ventilate after shower. Mold on the ceiling is often poor wall ventilation, not PVC — check the exhaust.
Kids’ room: ball and toy marks usually wash off with soap on matte MSD. Teach kids not to poke the ceiling with sharp toys.
Warranty and when to call an installer
POTOLOK+ offers 15-year warranty on film and install with normal care. Small sag at a platform after a year — don’t “fix” by scrubbing; book a tension visit.
Crack, track separation, local yellowing — send a photo and we’ll visit under warranty. DIY harsh chemicals may void warranty on damaged area.
